描述: The importance of steel ball crushing load test As an important part of ball bearings, steel balls have a great influence on the life, accuracy, vibration and running characteristics of ball bearings. When the bearing works, the contact surface of the steel ball and the raceway is actively small, and the compressive stress per unit area is large, generally up to 150-500 kg/mm2. The points on the contact trajectory of the steel ball to the raceway are cyclically stressed. Under normal circumstances, the number of cycles per minute is more than tens of thousands of times. Under the repeated action of cyclic stress, the high carbon steel ball is prone to fatigue damage. This phenomenon is called contact fatigue, which is one of the main features of the normal damage of the steel ball in the bearing. When contact fatigue reaches a certain level, it will lose its ability to work. The crushing load of the carbon steel ball refers to the pressure value of the steel ball when it is broken. It is an important indicator of the comprehensive performance of the steel ball. There are many factors in the processing of the steel ball affecting the crushing load value of the steel ball, such as the original metallographic structure of the steel ball, the microstructure of the heat treatment and different processing methods, the geometric precision of the stainless steel ball surface and the processing time of the steel ball. And test methods for measuring the crushing load of steel balls. The crushing load inspection of steel balls is a very important task in the quality inspection of steel balls, which also plays a significant role in the life and dynamic performance of the bearings. How are bearing balls made? Bearing balls are the component of a ball bearing that permit smooth, friction-free rotary motion. They are typically manufactured out of steel, but can also be made from other materials such as silicon nitride ceramic, plastic or even glass. Steel bearing balls, such as low carbon steel ball, are easily the most common ball material, with tens of millions produced annually. They are near-perfectly round and are polished with a mirror-like finish to provide precision rotary motion in machines, power tools, motors, power transmission and hundreds of other applications. Have you ever wondered how they are made? The answer is a multi-step process that converts a slug of unhardened steel to a hardened, ground and polished round ball. The slug Metal bearing balls are manufactured from steel wire or rod. During the first step in the process, the wire or rod is cut into small pieces called slugs. The volume of material for the slug is slightly larger than that of the finished ball. The excess material is removed in subsequent machining steps. At this stage, the material has not been hardened and is somewhat malleable. This is important so that the slug can be formed into a spherical shape in the next manufacturing step. Heading The slug is then fed to a header machine where the balls are put through a cold-forming process called heading. In cold heading, the slug is placed between two semi-spherically shaped dies and shaped under pressures between 10 and 20 tons. It is a high-speed process and can be very loud, especially for large-diameter balls, requiring ear protection for machine operators. Heading forms the slug into a spherical shape called a raw ball. There is a little excess material that still needs removal. Flashing The excess material, called flash or burrs, needs to be filed away. This is done in the flashing process, also referred to as filing. This removes the flash, but they are not yet perfectly round and the metal is still soft. There are two different machining variations that manufacturers use, but both involve rolling the balls between metal plates. Soft grinding Some manufacturers will then put the balls through a soft grinding process. It is referred to as soft because the material is not yet hardened. This operation is similar to the flashing process but an abrasive grinding stone is used instead of one of the metal plates. Heat treating Now that the balls have had the excess material removed and are relatively round, they are put through a heat-treating process to harden and strengthen. The balls are heated to approximately 1,500° F and then quenched in an oil bath. They are heated again to a much lower temperature. approximately 325° F, resulting in a ball that is through-hardened. Descaling After heat treating, the balls are discolored and covered with oxide deposits. To remove these deposits, the balls are put through a process called descaling. Descaling involves using a chemical agent, usually an acidic compound, to remove the build-up on the balls. Grinding Now that the grinding ball are hardened and relatively round, they are nearing the end of the manufacturing process. The next step is to grind the balls to size them and improve roundness geometry. The process is similar to the soft grinding process used earlier — the balls are rolled between a steel plate and a fine-grit grinding wheel. Lapping Finished steel balls, including middle carbon steel ball. The last step in the process is to lap the balls. Lapping is a superfinishing process that improves the surface finish or geometry and removes small amounts of material so that the balls attain the tight, required tolerances. The balls are rolled between two hardened steel plates, with one fixed and one rotating at a low speed. The balls are now perfectly round and have a mirror-like finish. Washing and sizing Now that the manufacturing process is complete, they are washed to remove any leftover residue. Lastly, the clean balls are inspected for scratches and sized. Even though the balls all have the same nominal outside diameter, small variances still occur. The ball grade defines the geometric tolerances of the bearing. The lower the grade number, the tighter the tolerances. The number of the grade is related to the sphericity and diameter variation of the balls. The tolerances are extremely tight and the variation between balls is quite small.

描述: In film blowing, flow instabilities limit the production rate and the quality of the film produced. The phenomena of sharkskin and melt fracture are known to commence when a critical wall shear stress is exceeded at the die lips. The critical value from laboratory experiments with capillaries is usually reported as 0.14 MPa, while in industrial installations much higher values are attained with the use of various additives, such as fluorocarbon polymers for LLDPE. In other processes involving polymer melt stretching, such as melt spinning and film casting, the phenomenon of draw resonance might be present under certain conditions. Draw resonance is a periodic fluctuation of diameter (in melt spinning) or thickness (in film casting). There have not been any relevant studies on draw resonance phenomena in film blowing. What is a Paper Making Machine? Apart from the other devastating problems associated with plastic bags, did you know that synthetic bag manufacturers produce about one trillion of those bags in a year globally? Did you also know that it takes one thousand years for a single bag of this kind to biodegrade? Yes, that’s the scariest part of it. Due to that, most governments are imposing bans on these carriers. The alternative? A mega-shift to more environmentally friendly paper bags. So basically a paper bag making machine is a state of the art machine that gathers, folds, stamps, and processes papers to produce clean paper bags. These paper bags are for use in the packaging of goods in various industries such as food, pharmaceutical products, grocery, and baking industries. The bag making machines come in various configurations depending on the type of bags for final production. Therefore, the paper bag making system should be versatile enough to cater to the dynamics in the paper bag manufacturing. Today different paper bag making stakeholders such as the machine manufacturers, raw material suppliers face a lot of shifting customer demands, government regulations, changing prices, etc. It’s thus good only if the machine can afford the manufacturer some relief. For that matter, it means that you need to know all the factors related to the paper bag making the machine. Besides, all the accompanying dynamics before making a purchase. Luckily, I have compiled all that you need to know in this article. The history of development and use of paper bag making machine with paper cutter dates back to the 19th century. During these early stages, the systems were simple and mechanically operated. With that, we move to the next step. Where to Use Paper Bag Making Machine Take a moment to reflect on the occasions you use a paper bag. Indeed paper bag forms a vital integral in our lives today. From simple uses such as carrying random goods to more complex ones such as in pharmaceuticals to wrap up drugs. One thing is for sure. Without paper bag making machine, or slitting machine, we would be missing a significant aspect of our lives. Surely, there are numerous uses of paper bag making the machine. Subsequently, the produced paper bags can be classified under different distinct categories depending on their purposes. Some of the major classifications are: · Bread paper bags Usually, if you go to the bakery store or supermarkets, you will find the bread wrapped up in brown paper bags and displayed. There is a significant reason why grocery stores do this kind of wrapping. Now, most of you might have had guesses about the reasons why the bakery stores bread in paper bags. Is it for aesthetical values to make it look fancy so that you get wanting to buy some? Or, is it to make you believe about the degree of freshness of the loaf? Some firmly think it’s solely for being environmentally conscious. Trust me; The bread paper bag covers serve much more values than those reasons above for maintaining more prolonged periods of freshness. That’s right; The paper bag plays a significant role in helping to keep the bread stay fresh for an extended period — this how it works. The paper bags especially the open ones provides a path for the continuous circulation of air in and out of the bread. The constant air circulation would then make the bread to form a crust which is also vital for the maintenance of freshness. The bread crust formed on the outer layer of the bread may seem dry but beneath that crust, lies a moist and sweet food. For that matter, it remains fresh for an extra three to four days. On the contrary, if you do the same packaging in a plastic bag, this what will undoubtedly happen. The plastic bag will retain moisture in the bread thereby keeping the whole crust and bread soaked in moisture thus becoming mushy. As a result, the dough will likely give you two or one day window for you to consume it a failure of which it loses taste. For that matter, the best packaging for your bread would undoubtedly be the one. It gives you freedom for consumption for at least within 3-4 days. More extended consumption period is what paper bag presents you. · Shopping paper bags Paper bags processed by flexo printing machine are suitable products for easy carrying to various places. One of these places should be the market or store. Paper bags are very much ideal for packing and fitting your goods when shopping. Hence, if you need a place to stack up and pack all your shopping, then paper bags would serve you dearly. Another thumbs up for paper bags is because they are open to customization to meet the customer’s requirements. Such kinds of specialization could be the production of different sizes, colors, and branding. In fact in the present, most countries around the globe have banned the use of plastic bags for shopping purposes. As a result, a paper bag would dearly serve your shopping needs. · Clothing paper bags Do you always feel bothered with packing your clothes in a heavy traveling bag? Are you tired of carrying your clothing in heavy bags everywhere you go? We have a solution for you. Do you visit the nearest gymnasium to your house? Then a leisure paper bag is suitable for you to carry along your fitness clothing, shoes, and even a water or energy drink bottle. · Fruit paper bags When it comes to the handling of fruits, a paper bag does so many functions. Most common roles of a fruit paper bag are: i. Packing fruits or carrying fruits from the market. I trust whenever you go to the market to buy fruits of your choice, the attendant places them in a paper bag. The packaging style is vital to help you carry the fruits along back home without worrying about wherever to put them. Furthermore, the paper bags are very hygienic to shield them from getting contaminated with germs or harmful chemicals. ii. Ripening fruits Have you ever been in a stressful hurdle of trying to get fruits to ripen faster? Continue reading… It’s so much simpler to get fruits to ripen up. You only need to have a paper bag by your side. Then do the following. Place the fruits in a paper bag. Leave the top of the paper bag slightly open. Wait for a few days for the fruit to ripen. That’s it. The technique behind this innovation is that most fruits release small quantities of ethylene gas. Since you left the paper bag slightly open, the emitted ethylene gas doesn’t escape but in turn, gets reabsorbed by the fruits. Continuous reabsorption of the ethylene gas initiates several physiological changes to the fruits. The most notable one is accelerating the ripening process of the fruits. Though it’s not easy to accurately estimate the rate of ripening of the fruits using this method. What researchers have proven is that ripening via paper bags takes shorter time compared to natural maturation. However, you need to ensure that the paper bag isn’t tightly closed because by doing that the fruits may instead rot. How? Tightly or thoroughly closed paper bag would leave no space for emission of other fruit emissions majorly moisture. Apart from causing the rotting effect, the humidity also facilitates the growth of mold in the fruits. The same results will occur if you use plastic bags. · Food paper bags Unquestionably paper bags form the foundation of most food packaging needs because other than from being eco-friendly, they’re economical, variety and flexible. On the economic perspective, if you’re dealing with a newly established business, then food paper bags is right for you to enable you to save on expenses. Besides, you can custom print the bags to make you give your company the correct exposure you need to gain ‘muscle strength’ in the market. Amongst a variety of diverse range of paper bags, the most popular ones include sulfite and kraft. The food paper bags are always coated free and non-treated to reduce the initial costs The bags are suitable for packing low – wet or moisture-containing food. For that matter, you can use these bags for packing takeaway foods such as cookies, pastries, sandwiches, muffins, rolls, chips, etc. They are specially designed to keep the food always fresh and crispy without it losing its taste. Besides, the bags come in a variety of sizes. Some of the typical categories of food paper bags are: Coffee bags – they are available in different content carrying capacity such as 0.5 lb,2lb, 5 lb, etc. to make them even more effective, they are grease resistant. Candy/bakery bags –perfect for a variety of foods. Bread bags Glassine bags Cookie and sandwich bags – these are moisture and grease resistant. Chicken carry bags Drug packaging bags The pharmaceutical industry is a critical field that hugely relies on the use of paper bags. The environmentally suitable and recyclable paper bags are often used to pack almost everything from prescriptions, dosing to the cards issued out. These bags can be printed in many colors up to four and are available in different sizes depending on the application for use. Other forms of customization are also familiar with these paper bags to assist you in branding and to advertise your business and the services you offer. The bags are available in different raw materials including white or brown kraft, clay coated gloss. Pharmacies, veterinary clinics, hospitals, and other health centers are just a few areas which utilize the need for paper bags. Since packaging is an integral service in the pharmaceutical industry, it’s always thoroughly regulated depending on the country of origin of the bags. Some of the standard measures put in place for the production of paper bags are: Assurance of the patient wellbeing, Confirmation of the efficacy of the drugs for the intended shelf life Sufficient documentation of all the materials and processes of production Regulation of any chances of contamination of the drugs by the packagings. Avoidance of microbial contamination. Control of quality degradation of the drugs by moisture, heat, etc. The smaller packs of drugs are usually precisely measured and placed into smaller original paper bag packages. Over the counter drugs are also the primary beneficiary of the paper bags. The packaging contains all the relevant usage information including the dosage. These drug paper bags are usually resistant to tamper as well as having the child resistant properties. Those are some of the main areas and applications where you may use the paper bag making machines or plastic granulator. With that, we should move to the next segment of our discussion. Shall we?

描述: You can't overestimate the importance of good oral hygiene -- not only for dental health, but for your overall wellbeing. In fact, gum disease is a major risk factor for the development of serious health conditions, including heart disease and diabetes. From the time we're young, we're taught that using a toothbrush regularly is one of the best ways to keep our teeth and gums healthy. But which toothbrush is best? In the late 1930s, when toothbrushes with nylon bristles were first invented, consumers choosing a toothbrush didn't have many options. Now, the story's completely different. Most stores that sell oral hygiene products now have an extensive collection of different types of toothbrushes on their shelves, including manual (disposable) and powered (electric) varieties. General Tips for Choosing a Toothbrush There are certain characteristics that you should look for in whatever toothbrush you choose, regardless of whether it is manual or powered. Size. The best toothbrush head for you should allow you easy access to all surfaces of your teeth. For most adults, a toothbrush head a half-inch wide and one-inch tall will be the easiest to use and the most effective. Though there are larger toothbrush heads available, you may find that it is difficult to maneuver them to clean certain hard-to-reach areas, such as the sides and backs of your molars. The toothbrush should have a long enough handle so you can comfortably hold it in your hand. Bristle variety. If you go to the drug store to purchase a manual toothbrush or a replacement head for your electric toothbrush, you will be able to select a toothbrush with soft, medium, or hard nylon bristles. For the vast majority of people, a soft-bristled toothbrush will be the most comfortable and safest choice. Depending on how vigorously you brush your teeth and the strength of your teeth, medium- and hard-bristled brushes could actually damage the gums, root surface, and protective tooth enamel. For even more tooth protection when you brush, be sure the bristles on the toothbrush you select have rounded tips. Expert recommendation. To ensure your toothbrush has undergone rigorous quality control tests for cleaning effectiveness and safety, ask your dentist for a recommendation. Or look for manual or powered toothbrushes that have earned the American Dental Association (ADA) Seal of Approval. For disposable toothbrushes, this seal ensures that: the bristles will have safe tips; the bristles will not fall out of the toothbrush under typical brushing conditions; the handle will withstand normal use; and the toothbrush will effectively reduce plaque build-up and gum disease in their early stages. In addition to satisfying these conditions, powered or electric toothbrushes bearing the seal also must undergo safety testing in an independent lab and prove through clinical trials that the toothbrush is safe for use on the tissues of the mouth and teeth, as well as any dental hardware that may be in place. Toothbrushes: Disposable or Electric? As long as you clean your teeth regularly using proper brushing technique, you should be able to reduce plaque build-up and keep your gums healthy with either a manual or powered toothbrush. Here are some things to keep in mind as you go about choosing the best toothbrush: Cost. Although there are some more affordable powered toothbrush options being sold, electric toothbrushes cost many times more than manual toothbrushes. In addition to the initial expense of an electric toothbrush with toothbrush head, you will need to replace the removable toothbrush head as often as you replace your manual toothbrush. Of course, if using an electric toothbrush helps you keep your teeth cleaner, you may make up for the expense with a reduction in dental bills. Likability. When it comes down to it, the best toothbrush for you is going to be the one you're most likely to use -- and use well. Some people may not like the vibrating feeling of a powered toothbrush, and water flosser, too. Others might find an electric variety easier to use to clean all tooth surfaces. This may be especially true for people with conditions that limit mobility, such as painful arthritis. If you enjoy using your toothbrush, you're more likely to brush for the recommended length of time -- two minutes. Some powered varieties even have a built-in timer to let you know when you've devoted enough time to brushing. Effectiveness. Numerous scientific studies have been conducted to investigate whether manual or powered toothbrushes are more effective at reducing gum disease and eliminating plaque. A review of nearly 30 studies comparing disposable and electric toothbrushes found that, overall, there was not a significant difference between electric and manual toothbrushes in their ability to remove plaque and prevent gum disease. But, evidence suggests that a certain type of powered toothbrush called a rotation oscillation toothbrush (the bristles go round and round and back and forth) is more effective than manual toothbrushes. When matched with a UV sanitizer, the cleaning effectiveness will largely increase. Safety. Although all toothbrushes with an ADA Seal of Approval have been tested for safety, there may be certain individuals for whom a particular type of toothbrush is safer. If you tend to brush too vigorously, which can damage your gums and teeth, a powered toothbrush may make it easier for you to be gentle on your gums and teeth and get them clean at the same time. Some studies suggest that using a powered toothbrush may increase the amount of bacteria in the bloodstream more than a manual toothbrush. This does not pose a risk for healthy people with normal immune systems and healthy hearts. But it could increase the likelihood that people with certain heart conditions could acquire a potentially dangerous infection in the heart. Further investigation is needed to determine whether this should be a cause for concern. The Best Toothbrush for Children When it comes to choosing the best toothbrush for your child, it's important to opt for one that they will use properly and regularly. There are a variety of disposable and electric options available for kids. And they come in a variety of colors and often feature children's favorite characters from classic stories and popular cartoons. Some varieties even play music to help your child know how long to brush. To choose a good toothbrush for your child, try the following suggestions: Make sure the toothbrush you select has an ADA Seal of Approval. Pick a child-sized toothbrush with soft bristles. If your children are old enough, have them help you pick out their toothbrushes. Getting your children involved in the process and excited about a new toothbrush may make tooth-brushing a more enjoyable task. The use of light at night continues to increase. Simply put, this is because without night light we are deprived of our premier sense, vision. By enabling vision the use of light at night delivers a number of benefits to people. Such benefits include greater safety for pedestrians and drivers, reduced fear of crime, more use of outdoor facilities after dark, enhanced economic growth and the creation of built and natural environments that are a source of beauty and entertainment. This suggests that the use of light at night is linked to some very basic human motivations which in turn means that people value such benefits and will not willingly abandon them. Fortunately, careful lighting design, soundly-based outdoor lighting standards and new lighting and sensor technology offer the possibility of providing the benefits of light at night while minimizing the impact on the environment, and also, desk lamp, projector light at night.

描述: Multifunctional Filling or Capping Machines are widely used in the pharmaceutical & FMCG industry because of their efficiency and consistent results. The Semi-automatic Volumetric Liquid Bottle Filling Machine works on the basic principle of volumetric with syringe & piston & nozzle. It is widely used to fill liquid in containers like bottles in food, agrochemical, beverages, and pharmacy industries. The digital liquid filling machine uses the syringe to fill the liquid, it is very compact and it can multifunction to meet the custom requirement of mass filling of the containers. The machine consists of its pumping system to fill the assigned volume in the container. The liquid flow is measured and converted into electrical signals which are controlled by the PLC base circuit. The machine can be programmed to fill different volumes in different size containers. It uses a gear pump set to meter the filling device to correctly fill the gel or liquid amount. Bottle Filling machine or fillers are used to fill bottles in not only food industries but other industries also like shampoo, powders, tablets, and conditioners due to their benefits like decrease in manual labour hence reducing operation cost, reduce in set up time, easy to operate by some buttons, easily washable, durability and longer operation hours & life, cost-effective packaging. These machines can easily work on wide products with different viscosities and container volumes. Oral liquid Manufacturing system involves a closed circuit manufacturing facility from supplying sugar/water phase to loading of volumetric flavor drink filling machine. The plant helps in ensuring hygiene with no human touch anywhere up to the Filling machine hopper. It shafts operate vibration-free along with no coupling in the drive assembly. The storage vessel also consists of stirrer for suspension in a closed vessel. Capping and sealer machines Capping machines are extensively used in liquid good manufacturing industries in pharmaceutical and FMCG industries to apply cap or lid to every container securely in the packaging process. The aseptic filling machine helps you to speed up the manufacturing process with sanitization and quality. The bottle capper machine not only places a cap on the container but also sorts them, elevates them, and finally seal them acting as cap sealer machine. The machines are extremely flexible and can fit into the desired workplace effortlessly. For the flip-off cap or tear off cap a capping machine known as vial capping machine, it is used to seal Glass Vial or bottle. Vial capper is an imperative product in the injectable formulation plant as it assures an ideal hermetic seal to ensure the integrity of medicine inside the glass bottle. The quality vial capping is helpful for paramedical staff during the injection process by smooth removal and quality assurance. It also protects the stopper from any outer damage by firmly holding a stopper in the sealed position and maintaining sterility of drug. All these machines form an important part of pharmaceuticals and FMCG companies to continue their production safely and efficiently. Increasingly, manufacturers are recognizing the advantages of transporting dry bulk ingredients in flexible intermediate bulk containers (FIBCs or bulk bags). The savings in ingredient costs, material handling, warehousing and transportation requirements can be substantial. These benefits can only be realized when appropriate bulk bag filling equipment is applied. Properly designed FIBC bulk bag fillers deliver a dense, stable package that can be safely and easily stored, transported and discharged. The savings that properly filled FIBCs deliver can be augmented by automating the filling system to increase filled bag output. Depending on the application, automated bulk bag filling systems can range from a single, microprocessor-controlled machine filling 10 bulk bags per hr, to multiple units each outputting 20 bags per hr, to a single, multistation filler production 70 one-ton bags per hr. Any benefits from filling FIBCs in greater volume must be qualified by careful analysis of the quality of the resulting filled bag. For example, if you use one filling machine to fill 20bags per hr without proper densification, but then have to store them unstacked or in racks because the bags are leaning and unstable, you are paying a premium for storage space, transportation and labor. It is most effective to specify a expansion bag filling machine that maximizes the ingredient in the bag and produces a straight and stable package. Then, once you can stack, convey and transport the filled bag efficiently, you can investigate automation techniques to best match your production rates and secure the highest efficiency for your operation. Look for a bulk bag filler designed to hang fill the bag to produce straight sides and to fill the corners of the bag first to maximize stability. A fill should also densify and compact the ingredient and weigh the bulk bag accurately and reliably. Bulk Bag Filler Automation Opportunities Filling a bulk bag comprises three main operational steps: rigging the bag, filling the bag and taking the filled bag away from the machine. Automation of an FIBC filling machine can be approached on four levels: 1) adding an automatic control system to a manual machine, 2) automating the removal of the filled bag and placing of the pallet (if necessary), 3) preweighing the ingredient to reduce overhead time associated with bag rigging and ingredient feeding, and 4) providing a multistation machine to simultaneously perform the three operational steps. A typical filling operation requires the rigged bag or liner to be inflated, the weight of the machine or part of the machine to be tared out, the fill to be initiated, the densification and compaction to be cycled, and the fill rate to be slowed by some method in order to successfully achieve the target weight. A microprocessor-based controller can automate almost all of these steps. Once the operator has rigged the bag and inflated it, taring the weighing system initiates the automated fill cycle, whereby the controller takes over the sequencing of starting and stopping ingredient flow into the bag, densification and weighting. A typical bulk bag filling system of this sort can achieve an output of up to 10 bags per hr depending on the maximum flowrate of ingredient into the bag. A manual system may be only capable of six to eight bags per hr. Automatic Bulk Bag Removal Typically the filled bulk bag is removed from the filling machine by a forklift truck. Providing a means of quickly freeing up the space inside the filling machine to rig a second bag, once the first is full, can increase the output rate and reduce the need for a dedicated forklift truck. Roller or chain conveyors can be positioned in the filler to remove the filled bag automatically. Conveyors, either motorized or gravity type, can be added to allow filled bag accumulation for later transport by forklift truck. Pallet and slip sheet dispensers can be added to the system, along with additional motorized conveyors, to automatically position a pallet in the machine or to pick up the filled bag on a pallet. This eliminates the need for an operator to manually place the pallet in the machine. Automatic bulk bag removal can increase the output of a stand-alone, microprocessor-controlled filler to 12 to 14 bags per hr. Filled bags with specially designed lifting loops can be handled easily with fork trucks. This may further increase system output as pallet need not be accommodated. Preweighing Bulk Bags The final step to increase the output of a single station filler is to reduce the time required to feed ingredient into the bag to meet a target weight. This can be done by preweighing the ingredient in a weigh hopper located directly above the filler. The “charge” of ingredient is fed into the hopper to the target weight while the system or operator removes the previously filled bag and rigs the next. Once the new bag is rigged, the preweighed charge is dropped into the bag quickly. As soon as the charge has left the preweigh hopper the system begins to fill the next bag’s charge in the weigh hopper. In this configuration, the bulk bag filling machine itself does not perform weighing and, therefore, does not require a weighing system. However, the overall control system must be expanded to simultaneously perform weighing in the preweigh hopper while controlling the other functions associated with densification, automatic bag removal and pallet and slip sheet dispensing. Pre-weighing, in association with automated controls and automatic bag removal, can increase the output of a single filling station to 20 bags per hr. Multiple Bulk Bag Fillers Increase Bulk Bagging Rate For production rates greater than 20 bags per hr, multiple bulk bag fillers can be used. The capital cost versus production rate must be assessed to arrive at the most effective total system configuration. For example, if 30 bags per hr are required, two automatic bag removal systems would be most appropriate. If 40 bags per hr are required, two preweighed, automatic bag removal systems would be selected. More bulk bag filling machines can be added and sequenced to further increase bag output. If more than 50 bags per hr are required a decision must be made based on available space, operator availability and associated labor costs and capital cost. A high-capacity system may be justified in this case. If more than six bulk bags per hr are needed to be filled, it is worth considering automation possibilities. A single machine’s output can be enhanced by filling-specific controls of the doypack filling and capping machine, preweighing, and integrating conveyors and pallet and slip sheet dispensers. Further, increases in output can be achieved by applying multiple units as long as sequencing of the operator functions is carefully reviewed. There is an ever-increasing number of leading beverage brands who are going "back to glass" to convert their product lines into something more environmentally-friendly. Their secret weapon? An automated bottle filling machine capable of bearing the production rate. Here are the main reasons why a growing number of companies are introducing automated bottle filling machines in their beverage bottling lines. Why you should install an automated filler in your line There are three main advantages due to a filler, such as a flavor drink filling machine, installed in the factory. Let's go through them together. An automated filler increases the perceived beverage quality Add a glass line to make your products more appetizing. Glass bottles are associated with quality and "premium beverages" by most consumers. Think about it: When you sip a Coke or a soft drink from a glass bottle, doesn't it seem better than when you drink it from a plastic bottle or can? This phenomenon occurs mainly because: Glass does not release unwanted substances into the beverage; The perception of flavor changes when drinking a soft drink directly from a bottle because the flow that reaches the tongue is directed to the receptors most sensitive to sweet taste; Plastic is much more permeable to CO2 than glass, which means that carbon dioxide, or fizz, will be released from a plastic bottle much faster than from a glass bottle or can. Consequently, we subconsciously associate drinking from a glass bottle with something of above-average quality. If we add the fact that a high-quality automated filler does not affect the flavor of your beverage during bottling, you can really sleep soundly. Glass bottles can be returned and reused An automated bottle filler, such as flavor drink diamond carton filling machine, allows the bottling materials to be reused. As we have repeatedly pointed out in our articles, glass is among the most sustainable materials available, because it can be 100% endlessly recycled, despite plastic. Glass bottles can be returned, with an advantage of accessibility and sustainability to both consumers and producers. With an automated bottle filler, you too will help support the circular economy and the well-being of the planet. An automated bottle filler ensures financial success and a better image Gain popularity with a glass-bottled beverage line. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage companies that opt for glass profit experience a more positive perception of the brand image. Such a choice, in fact, draws the attention of those who appreciate environmental sustainability or look for a more sophisticated beverage. The consequence is quite logical: the more you become popular, the more financially successful you are through increased sales.

描述: Everyone loves using technology up until it stops working, and if you landed on this article, you’re standing desk isn’t working and you’re not exactly feeling the love. Given the fact that the desk has electrical components, at one some point, it’s normal that you experience a hiccup. The most common issue is that the electric sit stand desk stops going up or going down. The desk just becomes stuck. In this blog, I’m going to share the most common reasons a standing desk won’t go up or down and how to fix it. Keep reading to find out how to get your desk back in working condition, and standing desk controller is usually used.. Why your standing desk won’t go up & how to fix it 1. Object is in the way You may have something that’s mounted above the desk that’s stopping it from traveling upwards. The typical culprits are mounted shelves, cabinets, or artwork. As a safety measure, many standing desks have a collision detection feature that prevents the desk from hitting another object. When it detects an object in the way, the table will stop moving upwards and then slightly move down, giving you room to remove whatever is in the way. How to fix this Check for any items above your standing desk parts that may be getting in the way, and remove them. 2. Standing desk lost power This typically happens for one of two reasons: the desk was temporarily unplugged and plugged back in OR the outlet lost power. In many cases, when a standing desk loses and then regains power, it automatically goes into reset mode. While being in reset mode, a sit stand desk can only travel downwards. How to fix this To get your table to move up, you must complete a manual reset on the table. 3. The legs are uneven Over time, the legs on a standing desk with two (or more) motors can become a bit uneven. If the motors don’t have a good self-locking mechanism, the motor and spindle can turn when it’s supposed to maintain its height position. While one motor may turn, the second will either remain still or turn more/less than the first motor. Now, the motors are out of sync and your desk is uneven. Once the desks become uneven, one of two things can happen. 1.) The standing desk control box (the brains of the desk) finally recognizes that the legs are at different heights and it will stop moving up to prevent any more damage to the desk. OR 2.) The control box isn’t sophisticated enough to recognize the issue, and the desk will continue to move up and down until there’s too much friction within the leg columns, get stuck, and stop moving. How to fix this The desk must do a complete reset in order for the leg to be realigned and even. 4. Too much weight on the desk Every height adjustable table has a maximum lifting capacity. If your desk is trying to support too much weight, an overload can occur. The desk is saying “this is too much work for me to go higher,” and to protect its components, it shuts off. How to fix this To fix this, just remove some of the weight from your desk. Once you take off enough weight, the desk should automatically turn back on and begin functioning as normal. There’s typically no need for a manual reset. To help prevent this from happening again, research the lifting capacity of your standing desk. Pay special attention to whether that number is base only or base + worksurface. For example, if the manufacturer states “Total Lifting Capacity Base Only: 325 lbs,” that means whatever you put on top of the base (worksurface, monitors, keyboard tray, etc.) cannot exceed 325 lbs. 5. The control box cycles out A table’s control box, including Single-Motor Standing Desk Control Box, Dual-Motor Standing Desk Control Box, and Three-Motor Standing Desk Control Box, can only go up and down so many times before it needs to rest. This is something that’s referred to as the Duty Cycle. The Duty cycle tells us the maximum amount of time the control box can be active (moving the desk up or down) and how long it needs to be inactive (in its rest stage). If the control box reaches the maximum amount of active time, it will turn on a mandatory rest period to prevent overheating. So, when you’re desk stops working all of a sudden, don’t panic. 6. The power, control box, or motor cables are loose The power, motor, or control box cables can become loose by getting tugged on or stuck. The cause of the tug is often due to a lack of wire management. A cable can be pulled out of the socket ever so slightly and still cause power to be intermittent. See the images below to see how to better identify if a cable is securely inserted. When the cables become loose, the power within them becomes intermittent, meaning that sometimes the power can flow through them and sometimes it can’t. For many desks, every time the power is lost, the table will go into reset mode. How to fix this Before you reset your sit stand desk, check all cables to make sure they’re securely connected. Once you’ve done that, go ahead and reset the desk. To help prevent this problem, use a wire management solution to keep wires out of the way. There are a variety of options available so you can find the one that best suits you. 7. Desk has an upper container stop An upper container stop is a setting a user creates to reprogram the desk’s maximum height. So, instead of being able to go to 48”, you can set the max. height to 40”. They’re used to prevent collisions between your sit stand desk and another object, like a cabinet or shelf. How to fix this You will need to either change or delete the upper container stop to make the table go up past the current setting. To do that, follow the instructions provided by the desk’s manufacturer. Why your standing desk won’t go down & how to fix it 1. Object is in the way There may be an object below the desk that’s stopping it from going down. Common objects include chairs, mobile pedestals, file cabinet, etc. Many standing desks have a collision detection feature that prevents the desk from hitting another object and causing any harm or damage. When it detects an object in the way, the table will stop moving downwards and then slightly move up, giving you room to remove whatever is in the way. How to fix this Check under your desk and remove any object that may be blocking its travel. 2. Too much weight on the desk Every height adjustable table has a maximum lifting capacity. If your desk is trying to support too much weight, an overload can occur. The desk is saying “this is too much work for me to lift” and to protect its components, it shuts off. How to fix this To fix this, just remove some of the weight off your desk. Your desk should automatically turn back on and begin functioning as normal. 3. The control box cycles out A table’s control box can only go up and down so many times before it needs to rest. 4. Desk has a lower container stop A lower container stop is a setting a user creates to reprogram the desk’s minimum height. So, instead of being able to go all the way down to 24”, you can set the minimum height to 28”. They’re used to prevent collisions between your sit stand desk and another object, like a chair or mobile pedestal. How to fix this You will need to either change or delete the lower container stop to make the table go up past the current setting. To do that, follow the instructions provided by the desk’s manufacturer. Fixing your standing desk can be overwhelming. Start here. There are many different reasons why your standing desk is getting stuck, and it can be challenging to find the correct way to fix it. This list may not include every reason for why your sit stand desk won’t go up or down. The table may not be assembled correctly or there may be other manufacturing defects. However, this list does share the most common causes and solutions and is a great place to start when you first notice that your desk won’t move. If you were to call your desk’s manufacturer, technical support likely go through this same troubleshooting list that we went through in this article. Tackling these common causes first on your own can either completely solve the problem, or help save you time on the phone with tech support if it happens to be a malfunctioning issue.

描述: The upholstery fabric for a new sofa or armchair is a big investment—you don’t want to be second-guessing it a few months after the piece arrives on your doorstep. Choose the wrong material and you’ll find yourself battling snags and stains. Make a mistake on the color or pattern, and the whole room suffers (or you’ll wind up splurging to have the piece reupholstered). So before you pick your new upholstery furniture fabric, read on to find out what you should consider in terms of durability, comfort, and style. Here's how to zero in on a fabric choice you’ll be happy to live with for years. What Is Upholstery, Anyway? Upholstery is the materials—which include fabric, padding, webbing, and springs—that make up the soft coverings of chairs, sofas, and other furniture. The process began in the Middle Ages and grew in popularity during the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. Over the years, a wide variety of materials have been used, from hay to horsehair to wool. Modern upholstered items use metal springs and foam for greater durability. While the interior materials may not be visible, they make a big difference in whether the piece is comfortable . And though fabric can always be changed—and may need to be, depending on wear and tear—choosing high-quality inner layers will help make sure the piece will last for years to come. How to Choose the Best Upholstery Fabric for Your Sofa (or Chair, or Headboard…) As you shop for an upholstery fabric, let your practical needs lead, advise Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams, cofounders of the home-furnishings company that shares their names. “First, consider how you live and who will use the piece,” says Bob. “This will help guide you on the type of material to choose.” You may love the look of that silk velvet, but it will quickly get destroyed in a house with kids or pets. Pieces in high-traffic areas, such as family or living rooms, will need durable fabrics, especially for outdoor cushion and pillow fabric, while furniture that doesn't get as much wear and tear, such as a bedroom settee or headboard, can sport any type of textile. A big mistake people make, Bob says, is not considering how a fabric or leather may age over time. Check the label and ask questions at the showroom to find out about the material’s content and cleaning needs, then think about how much maintenance you’re prepared to do to protect your selection. “How will it look in five years?” asks Bob. “Will you still love the leather as it develops a nice patina from everyday living? Will you vacuum the upholstery fabric regularly? Will you close the drapes when away or not using a room to avoid some of the fading that naturally occurs from exposure to sunlight?” The Best Upholstery Fabrics for Homes with Kids and Pets “Growing up, my brother and I weren’t allowed in the living room; it was for company only,” says Mitchell. Today, though, there are plenty of upholstery materials that match good looks with durability. “For children and pets—and maybe red-wine lovers—we like the easy care of a faux suede or the durability of a Sunbrella indoor-outdoor fabric,” he says. “We’re also big fans of slipcovered upholstery. And distressed leather is great—you don’t have to worry about the occasional scuff or scratch.” If you have a busy household, stay away from delicate or textured options, like silk, which could pull and aren’t as forgiving when it comes to stains. How to Pick a Luxurious Upholstery Material If messy children and pets aren’t a worry, “you can really flaunt your freedom,” says Mitchell. His top decadent picks: fluffy Tibetan wool (“it feels so indulgent, but it’s not a great place to eat peanut butter crackers”) and Belgian linen. “While linen is very durable, in lighter colors it doesn’t offer the level of stain resistance that a kid-friendly household might need and may not have a crisp, wrinkle-free look after a lot of lounging,” he says. If you're worried about upkeep (or cost), you can always use these luxe fabrics on pillows, which can be swapped out once they've seen better days or a new trend comes along. Don't Forget to Consider the Piece Itself Take the shape of the furniture into consideration when you're choosing a fabric. (Your upholsterer will thank you.) If you’re upholstering a curvaceous piece, Bob recommends sticking to solid-colored fabrics for office chair fabric. “Patterns or textures with a distinctive direction may not upholster well.” A pattern that looks great on a bolt of fabric may not look great once it is chopped up and put back together on your sofa, particularly if it's a tricky, ornate shape. Take the size of the furniture into account, too. “We like larger pieces, such as a sofa, in a rich solid color or classic neutral so you won’t tire of it over time,” says Bob. “Liven things up with smaller pieces—for instance, a great statement chair in a bolder shade or pattern.” Think about the other furnishings in the room as well—especially the other upholstered pieces. You'll want to make sure the colors, textures, and patterns work well together. Try Before You Buy “The easiest way to be sure you’ll like an upholstery material on a certain frame—and like how it feels when you sit on it—is by going with something you see in the store," says Bob. If you fall in love with a fabric that’s not shown on the floor, ask for a swatch you can drape over a furnishing to get a better idea of how it will look. If you go with a custom option, make sure you see a large swatch of any patterned fabrics so you see the full motif and its complete color palette. A little due diligence will help you avoid a big (and disappointing) surprise once the piece arrives. Think Outside the Swatch You're not limited to the fabrics in the store, especially if you are looking for a truck chair cover fabric. Consider unconventional materials such as vintage blankets or kilim rugs. Bonus points if you pair a bold choice of fabric on a traditional piece such as a wingback chair or camelback sofa.

描述: If you need to clean something quickly and efficiently, sandblasting is one the best ways. While it's most often used in commercial applications, sandblasting has several uses around the home. This method of cleaning involves shooting small pellets or particles out of an air compressor at a very high speed. When these particles strike a surface, any surface debris such as old paint or rust is blasted away. As effective as sandblasting is, there are many potential mistakes involved in the process. Sandblasting can be dangerous, and it can also damage many surfaces. Here, we'll take a closer look at this cleaning method and the mistakes most commonly made by homeowners (and by professionals working on residential projects). We'll also let you know how to avoid these dangerous and expensive mistakes. Not Following Safety Precautions Sandblasting involves tiny abrasive particles flying through the air at a very high rate of speed. Obviously, if these particles have the ability to take paint off, they can do some serious damage to skin and other surfaces. Following safety precautions is an absolute must when attempting DIY sandblasting. Covering any exposed skin should be your first concern. While a set of full-body coveralls isn't something that most homeowners have lying around, they can be purchased at a surprisingly low cost at many paint-supply stores. These inexpensive coveralls are usually made of paper or very thin fabric. Heavy gloves are another must when sandblasting. Choose a pair which extends as far up your arms as possible. Leather is your best option. Try to ensure that no skin is left exposed between the glove and your sleeve. Protecting your face is your most important concern. At the very least, goggles must be worn in order to protect your eyes. However, a full face mask offers even more protection. A mask with a pull-down clear shield is appropriate. If you or a member of your household plays paintball on a regular basis, the masks worn for the sport offer ideal protection. When using your sandblaster, be sure to stay out of range as much as possible. Different units use different amounts of air pressure, and this affects just how far particles will be blown back toward the user. When you rent or purchase your sandblaster, be sure to ask a knowledgeable salesperson how far back you need to stand in order to stay safe. If you can't find anybody who knows, contact the manufacturer. Once you have suitable protection for yourself, be sure to keep pets and people away from the area in which you will be working. Let everybody in the household know to stay away until you've finished. Using the Wrong Type of Particles A surprisingly large number of particles are available for use during sandblasting. While some are only available to professionals, many can be purchased by DIY handymen. These particles have very different degrees of hardness, and are appropriate for very different types of jobs. Traditional sand is the most obvious and most common choice for shot blasting machine. However, don't make the mistake of using just any sand. Any large pieces of debris in the sand, such as small rocks, can do a large amount of damage to the surface you're working on. They're also extremely dangerous when flying around at high speeds. If your home center doesn't carry sand specifically intended for sandblasting use, look for sand intended for use in children's' sand boxes. This sand is usually rather fine, and free of debris. If you have a pool with calcium deposits on the tiles, you may find that glass beads are your best bet for safely removing stains. These beads are extremely fine and round in shape, allowing them to remove calcium stains without damaging your tile. Bead blasting can also remove fungus, mold and mildew from pool grout. Organic blasting materials, such as finely crushed shells or baking soda, are considered to be some of the best options for cleaning softer surfaces such as brick work and masonry. These materials are generally the gentlest available for blasting. When you rent your machine, or purchase material for your next blasting job, always as a knowledgeable salesperson which type of sand or other material should be used. Using the wrong material is one of the most common sandblasting mistakes, and it can lead to severe damage. Cleaning an historic brick wall with cut metal wire, for example, can literally destroy the surface, taking off the brick itself instead of only removing dirt. Using a Too-Small Blaster DIY handymen don't have a huge range of products available to them for home sandblasting. Some of the most popular blasting units are very small. While this seems like a good idea, it's actually better to choose a mid-range unit. Smaller units often require starting and stopping much more frequently. They need to cycle more often than larger units, and this cycling takes up time. This isn't a very big issue if you're working on something small, such as a piece of furniture. However, if you're working on a larger project, getting it all done with these small units can become extremely time consuming. A medium range unit will give you all the power you need to get your projects done quickly, without being too powerful for you to safely control. Ask a knowledgeable salesperson about sizes before making your final decision, and read reviews online from people who have actually used the products you're considering. For home blasting jobs, you don't need all the power of an industrial unit, but you don't want to have to stop and wait every five minutes, either. A quality mid-range unit will strike the perfect balance between power and size. Failure to Collect Blasting Materials In the world of commercial sandblasting, a sand blasting cabinet is often used. This self-contained unit collects all of the blasting material, allowing it to be used many times. This saves money and reduces waste. You can take a hint from the commercial blasting industry and collect your own blasting material. A very common mistake when tackling DIY sandblasting work, using sand blasting tank is allowing all your blasting material to literally fly away. Collecting this material and using it again not only saves you money, but it cuts down on how many times you have to carry heavy bags to your blasting site. You don't need anything as elaborate as a blasting cabinet to collect most of your blasting material. A simple tarp or an old sheet laid on the ground will do just fine. Be sure to extend the sheet far enough out in all directions to catch as much blasting material as possible. Attempting Too Much DIY Sandblasting is a big project. It intimidates many homeowners, which is perfectly understandable. After all, it can be very dangerous and has the potential to severely damage your home and property. Don't make the mistake of taking on sandblasting if you're not completely comfortable with the situation. Wielding as much power as a sandblaster delivers takes confidence. If you don't have that confidence, don't feel bad or embarrassed...that's why professional sandblasting companies exist! It's also important to accurately weigh the cost of a DIY sandblasting job. In some cases, it's actually less expensive to call in professionals. In reality, only a very busy and dedicated home handyman (or woman) with plenty of projects lined up has a real need for their own sandblasting device. If this doesn't describe you and your situation, you'll probably save money by calling in the pros. In addition to saving yourself the hassle and expense of purchasing, learning about and storing a large and bulky machine, you'll benefit from the experience and knowledge which only professional sandblasters have. Hiring an Inexperienced Worker Hiring a worker without an appropriate level of experience is almost as bad (sometimes even worse) than taking on more DIY work than you can handle. The potential results are the same: safety risks, poor quality work and potential damage to property. So how can you avoid these costly mistakes? Thankfully, it's very easy. Asking questions and doing a bit of research is the easiest way to ensure that the professional you're hiring is capable of getting the job done right. Some important things to ask include questions about licensing, insurance and years in the business. While its' true that everybody has to start somewhere in their career, it's also in your best interest to hire a professional with experience. Finding a qualified professional sandblaster, or sandblasting contractor, isn't as difficult as it might seem at first. There's no need to call every name in the phone book. Today most homeowners rely on either recommendations from family, friends and neighbors, or they visit home improvement websites. Using your family, friends and neighbors can be a great way to find a reliable local contractor. However, be sure to ask the same questions you would ask of any potential hire. If you choose to find a contractor online, the same rules apply. Check qualifications and ask questions. Try to obtain at least three bids for your project before making a decision. This will let you see an average of what the going rate for sand blasting room work is in your area. Remember that while the highest bid does not necessarily represent the highest quality, it's also important to be wary of significantly low bids. Some less-than-reputable contractors will use a low bid to get themselves hired, only to either take off with your money without doing any work, or cutting corners and doing a poor-quality job. Whether you're tackling this project on a DIY basis, or hiring professionals, the most common mistakes are really very simple to avoid. 描述: Like many, most individuals could not speak about the differences between ventilation fans and exhaust fans off the top of their head. In fact, many would think they are one in the same. However, that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Each fan serves specific purposes in both commercial and residential spaces that are crucial for supplying high-quality air throughout an area. This blog post will serve the purpose of describing the difference between these two types of intake air fans. Ventilation Fans As the name implies, ventilation fans are used to ventilate a residential or commercial space. This works to bring fresh air from the outside and into the enclosed space. It helps circulate air through the building or home, which prevents individuals from breathing stuffy, less oxygenated air. Without ventilation, you and other individuals will be left breathing air that is not fresh. Exhaust Fans When pollutants and contaminants enter the air, exhaust fans remove them in order to provide clean air. Some common contaminants and pollutants include smoke, moisture, dust, and odors. Smoke from cooking and moisture from a hot shower can efficiently be removed from the air by this type of intake fan. If these contaminants are not removed from the air, you will subject your lungs to possibly breathing in harmful particles. Differences Between These Fans Both ventilation fans and exhaust fans work to create the freshest, cleanest air possible in the space they are installed. The main difference between the two types of fans is their application. While a ventilation fan works to bring clean air into an enclosed space from an outside source, an exhaust fan removes pollutants from the indoor air in a home or commercial space. Industrial Fans, or industrial air purifier is perfectly positioned to supply you with the ventilations fans or exhaust fans you need to keep the air in your commercial or residential space fresh and free of contaminants. Each fan has its own unique properties and application, so it is important to place them in the correct space. In addition, selecting a fan with the proper CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) is crucial to ensuring the fan operates as intended. A CFM that is too low will not be able to provide you with pristine air because it cannot move the air through the space efficiently. How does Backward Curved Centrifugal Fan work? The name, ‘Centrifugal Fan’ is derived from the direction of flow and how the air exits the fan impeller radially from the outer circumference of the fan. A Backward curved centrifugal fan is characterised by its cylindrical shape, several large curved blades and a conical inlet nozzle. The optimum operating area for a backward curved centrifugal fan is an area in the middle of its performance characteristic. A backward curved centrifugal fan works best when medium pressures and medium volume flows are required. Axial fans can be subdivided into two types, namely, vane axial and tube axial. Because of the type of construction employed, these fans lend themselves easily to multistaging if higher pressures are required. An AC duct booster fan is basically a fan that can be attached to the ductwork in an HVAC system. Designed to increase the airflow to the more distant parts of a home, a duct fan will typically be installed in long sections of ductwork and then hooked up to an electricity supply. Do inline duct booster fans work? Yes! Inline duct fans are built to be installed inside the ductwork itself. Because they can shift large volumes of conditioned air, inline fans are often used in larger properties with extensive networks of air ducts. Inline booster fans look somewhat like a regular section of ductwork. They are designed to replace a section of regular ductwork, so it is essential to choose one with the same dimensions as your existing ducts. An inline booster fan will cost somewhere in the region of $30 to $200 (not including installation costs), but once installed, they are cheap to run and do not use much in the way of electricity. Portable air purifiers You’ll find several types. Basic mechanical models use a fan to force air through a filter to remove particles. Those with higher-grade HEPA filters are certified to capture the smallest particles, including dust, smoke, pollen and pet dander. Electronic home air purifiers are designed to create an electric charge so particles stick to metal plates in the machine, which you then carefully wipe off. Other models include a UV light and claim to kill mold and bacteria, but Consumer Reports has not tested those models, and there’s currently no evidence that they do what they claim, Santanachote says. Some purifiers include an activated carbon filter to absorb odors and/or remove gases. While thicker, heavy-duty carbon filters are effective, they are -pricey. Thin mesh ones are a waste of money, Santanachote says. Expect to spend at least $200 on a portable unit. Top-rated models that purify large spaces may run up to $700. In addition, replacement filters cost $20 to $200 (a few models come with washable filters), and because experts recommend that you run purifiers 24/7, you’ll have to factor in electricity. Don’t be dazzled by sleek looks or equate higher cost with better performance. Look for models certified by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM). Then check the Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR), which describes how well the machine reduces tobacco smoke, pollen and dust. The higher the number, the better. Less than 60 is poor, and more than 240 is excellent, Santanachote says.
